Timing: Contact providers ASAP. Internet/TV often require an on-site appointment and can book out weeks.
Set all service start dates for your closing day.
What to Arrange
- Electric & Gas — transfer to your name or start new service.
- Internet & TV — schedule installation/activation (lead times can be long).
- Water / Sewer / Trash (single-family homes) — call the municipality or provider to switch into your name.
- Optional: security/monitoring, propane/oil (if applicable), and mail forwarding (USPS).
Have This Info Ready When You Call
- Service address and closing date (use as the start date).
- Account holder name(s), phone, and email.
- Billing address (if different), and last four of SSN (some utilities).
- Preferred appointment windows for internet/TV installation.
