Hire Movers & Start Packing
With inspection wrapped and appraisal sorted, it’s safe to book movers and begin packing. Call early, good movers book out weeks in advance.
Booking Movers
- Get 2 - 3 estimates and lock a date.
- If in a condo, tell movers the floor, stairs vs. elevator, and any time limits so they plan enough crew/time.
- Ask movers to bring wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes. This is a huge time saver.
Building / HOA Checklist
- Reserve the elevator (if applicable) and loading dock.
- Confirm any move-out fees, deposits, or insurance requirements.
- Check for move-in/move-out day/time restrictions.
Timing vs. Closing
You must be completely out by the time closing begins. Because exact closing times are usually confirmed only a few days prior (AM ~9:00, PM ~1–3), we recommend:
- Best: Move out the day before closing.
- If same day: Book movers very early (e.g., 6:00 AM) so you’re out before closing.
Moving Supplies
Start gathering boxes and packing materials. You can often find free boxes locally (e.g., online community boards). Retail options include moving-supply stores and shipping suppliers.
Pets
Moves are stressful for pets. Consider a trusted friend, sitter, or daycare during moving days so they’re safe and calm.
Items to Leave
- Items attached to the walls typically stay (TV mounts, built-in shelving, curtain rods).
- Everything else usually goes with you. If unsure, ask us—taking the wrong item can cause walk-through issues.
